Dr. Corinne VanBeek, an orthopedic surgeon specializing in shoulder and elbow care at Stamford Health, has been nominated for the Dr. Melville G. Magida Award, an annual recognition presented by the Fairfield County Medical Association to physicians who exemplify excellence in patient care, professionalism, and integrity.

Since joining Stamford Health in 2014, Dr. VanBeek has earned a reputation for combining advanced surgical skill with a compassionate, patient-centered approach. Patients and colleagues appreciate her ability to explain complex diagnoses clearly, listen attentively to concerns, and ensure patients feel informed and confident throughout their treatment. Her commitment to individualized care, technical expertise, and achieving the best possible outcomes has made her one of the region's most respected orthopedic surgeons.

Letters supporting Dr. VanBeek's nomination highlight her combination of surgical expertise, compassion, and dedication to her patients. In presenting her nomination, Richard Morell, MD, President and CEO of Stamford Health Medical Group, noted that patients consistently praised her care, with one patient sharing, "She listened to my concerns and was willing to work with me. She is one of the best at Stamford Hospital." Another wrote, "She makes me feel very comfortable, explains everything clearly, and answers all of my questions."

Dr. Morell also praised Dr. VanBeek's influence as a mentor and leader, describing her as "a phenomenal mentor to our younger surgeons, especially female surgeons," reflecting the respect she has earned from colleagues throughout her career.

"Dr. VanBeek's career reflects the qualities that define exceptional leadership in medicine: a commitment to advancing care, supporting her colleagues, and creating better experiences for the patients she serves," said John Brannelly, Executive Director of the Fairfield County Medical Association. "Her dedication to excellence extends far beyond the operating room through her mentorship, advocacy, and efforts to strengthen the future of healthcare in our community."

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. VanBeek serves as Medical Director of Surgery for Stamford Health Medical Group, where she leads initiatives focused on improving quality, collaboration, and patient-centered care. She has also served on numerous hospital committees, mentored residents and fellows, and contributed to national orthopedic organizations, reflecting her commitment to advancing both the specialty and the medical profession.

Throughout her career, Dr. VanBeek has been recognized with numerous honors, including Castle Connolly Top Doctor, Castle Connolly Exceptional Women in Medicine, Fairfield County Top Doctor, and the Vitals Patients' Choice Award. Her leadership extends beyond Stamford Health through service with organizations such as the Stamford Hospital Foundation and the Fairfield County Sports Commission. Her research, publications, and presentations have also contributed to ongoing advancements in orthopedic surgery.

The Dr. Melville G. Magida Award honors physicians whose clinical excellence is matched by compassion, leadership, and service to their communities. Dr. VanBeek will be recognized as Stamford Hospital's 2026 nominee at the Fairfield County Medical Association's Annual Dinner Meeting on October 8, 2026, at The Patterson Club in Fairfield.
