Kitchen Fire Damages Apartment In Stamford: FD

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Stamford Fire Marshal's Office.

STAMFORD, CT — A kitchen fire damaged an apartment in Stamford last Friday, according to the Stamford Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire at an apartment building at 9:22 p.m. on Aug. 14 in the 100 block of Washington Boulevard.

Upon arrival, crews located a kitchen fire in a fifth-floor apartment, the SFD. Firefighters used portable fire extinguishers to put out the flames before the building's sprinkler system was activated.

The fire was declared under control at 9:50 p.m.

"This rapid intervention prevented significant water damage to the apartment of origin and the apartments on the floors below," the SFD said in a news release.

A search was conducted of the apartment and neighboring units and stairwells, the SFD said, noting all occupants evacuated safely. No injuries were reported.

Ventilation fans were deployed to clear heavy smoke from the fifth floor.

Stamford Emergency Medical Services and the Stamford Police Department assisted at the scene.
