Stamford Police To Hold Gun Buyback, Gun Safe Giveaway

STAMFORD, CT — The Stamford Police Department will participate in the sixth annual statewide Gun Buyback and Gun Safe Giveaway Day on Saturday, Oct. 3.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Stamford Police Department, 725 Bedford St. The buyback is anonymous, no identification is required and gun shop owners are not eligible.

Gift cards will be exchanged for operable guns while supplies last. The amounts are:

• $200 for assault weapons, as determined by police under Connecticut gun laws. Newly sawed-off shotguns are not eligible.
• $100 for pistols and revolvers.
• $50 for rifles and shotguns.
• $25 for single- and double-shot Derringer-style handguns and any type of black-powder gun.

Nonworking guns, black-powder weapons, flare guns, ghost guns, pellet and BB guns, ammunition and magazine clips are not eligible for gift cards but may be turned in.

Guns must be transported in the trunk of a vehicle.

A limited number of free PIN-code gun safes will also be available for pistol permit holders.
