Stamford Speed Cameras To Become Operational In October: Details

STAMFORD, CT — Stamford's automated speed enforcement program will become operational in October, according to a social media post from Mayor Caroline Simmons.

"As part of our ongoing efforts to make Stamford's streets safer and advance the goals of our Vision Zero Program, automated speed cameras will become operational at 14 locations across seven school zones," Simmons posted on Facebook. "Speeding is a major factor in serious crashes, and this program is designed to encourage safer driving behavior, particularly around our schools."

Cameras have been approved for installation on streets around Cloonan Middle School, Springdale Elementary School, Dolan Middle School and Toquam Elementary School, Stamford High School, Julia A. Stark Elementary School, K.T. Murphy Elementary School, and Strawberry Hill School.

Vehicle owners will be ticketed for exceeding the posted speed limit by 11 mph or more.

The program will begin with a 45-day warning period. During this period, drivers who exceed the enforcement threshold will receive a warning instead of a fine. After the warning period, violations will result in a $50 fine for a first offense and $75 for subsequent offenses.

Violations do not impact points on driver's licenses or insurance.
