Team Edgehill, residents of Edgehill, Stamford's premier continuing care retirement community (CCRC) achieved record setting fundraising efforts to benefit the 2026 Walk to End Alzheimer's® in Fairfield County. The group raised $138,229, earning 12th place out of all fundraising teams nationwide – this was $32,000 more than the amount raised by the team last year. Team Edgehill was also the top fundraiser for the Fairfield County walk out of 293 teams, which raised $738,000 for Alzheimer's research, care and support. The Walk was held on October 25th at Sherwood Island State Park. This is the 13th year that Team Edgehill, a group of dedicated Edgehill residents, has participated. Team Edgehill continues its dedication to supporting the cause, having placed 14th nationwide for team fundraising in 2025.
"Every step we take brings us closer to a world without Alzheimer's," said Team Edgehill Captain Joan Weisman. "We're proud to come together each year to support individuals and families affected by Alzheimer's and to help fund the research that will lead to better treatments and, one day, a cure. As a team, we believe in the power of community to make a difference."
The Alzheimer's Association holds more than 600 walks annually in all 50 states. This year, 20 Edgehill residents and associates registered for the team, while others joined area businesses in making donations. Fundraising efforts include an annual event bringing residents together to connect and offer support. This year's event, held in September, featured Magic Al for a fun night of magic show participation and a lobster roll dinner.
"The unwavering dedication of our residents to make a difference in Alzheimer's care and support is just incredible – they are truly passionate. Residents give the same amount of effort and generosity to many other programs in our community," said Edgehill Campus Executive Director Chris Cilano. "From helping underserved people, supporting animal welfare organizations, or nurturing children in a learning setting, their generosity and commitment are a powerful reminder that seniors play a vital role in strengthening and supporting communities."
This summer, residents also led the fundraising efforts for the Hope in Motion Walk to benefit the Bennett Cancer Center at Stamford Health. This initiative raised more than $96,000 for patients.
