Bank Executive Is Elected Board Chair of The Stamford Partnership

Valerie Senew will lead the partnership that aims to develop improvements in the city.

Bank executive Valerie Senew has been elected as chairwoman of the board of The Stamford Partnership, a private-public partnership designed to improve the city.

“I am very excited to take on leadership of the Stamford Partnership board and look forward to bringing renewed awareness of the Partnership’s role in being a catalyst for taking city-wide efforts in new directions,” Senew said in a statement.

The Stamford Partnership was established in 1979 by the City of Stamford as a non-profit partnership of business and governmental leaders to improve the city’s economic and physical health.

Senew previously served on the Stamford Partnership’s board of directors for four years. She is the First Vice President and Growth Manager for People’s United Bank’s 36 branches in Greater Fairfield County and brings extensive experience in business development and leadership in 21st century banking. She has been with People’s United for more than 20 years, primarily in regional retail banking. Her responsibilities include the growth and development of all lines of business in the branch network including consumer and business loans, deposit growth, investments, insurance and deposit services.

Also elected to return as board are David Smith as treasurer and Jeanne Carrillo as Vice Chairwoman.

Smith is the Senior Vice President, Strategy & Chief Strategy & Network Development Officer for the Stamford Hospital. He is responsible for system strategy and planning, physician network development and management, ambulatory services, radiology services, business development, marketing and public relations, regulatory and governmental affairs and community outreach. He is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives, with over 30 years of experience in healthcare strategic planning and management.

Carrillo has served on the Partnership for over 10 years and as vice-chair for six years. She is a Second Vice President; North American Service Operations Manager at General Reinsurance Corporation, where she leads the Information Technology Service Operations team focusing on training and communications globally. She previously oversaw Gen Re’s Facilities Management real estate along with property management responsibilities, in addition to outsourcing governance, contract negotiations, as well as various other office service oversight. She also is actively involved with Westhill High School, co-chairing their major fundraiser for the last four years and previously was VP and Treasurer for the East Side Partnership Board, as well as Public Relations Director and Coach for the Stamford Youth Foundation, Cheerleading Division.
