Bond Commission Approves $40M for Stamford Transportation Center

The State Bond Commission on Friday approved $170 million for several major Department of Transportation projects, including $40 million to transform the Stamford Transportation Center into a multi-modal commuter complex.

The controversial project includes replacement of the train station's original 727-space parking garage with new parking facilities about a 1/4 mile away offering more than 1,000 new spaces. In addition the project aims to improve multi-modal traffic and pedestrian flow around the facility, as well as to promote transit-oriented development, according to a press release.

The Bond Commission also approved $50 million for the replacement of the Metro-North rail bridge over Atlantic Street. The project includes reconstruction of the northbound off-ramp to Atlantic Street and the addition of four more travel lanes to improve traffic flow.
