Car Bursts Into Flames, Driver Critically Injured: Stamford PD
A driver is in critical condition after his vehicle crashed into a tree and burst into flames in Stamford, according to police.

STAMFORD, CT — A driver is in critical condition after his car hit a tree and burst into flames Monday night, according to police. Sgt. Jeffrey Booth said the crash happened on Westhill Road around 8 p.m.
In a statement released Tuesday night, Booth said a 2016 Maserati was traveling along the road at "a very high rate of speed" when it crossed over to the wrong side of the road. The vehicle then left the roadway and began traveling along the curb line. (To sign up for Stamford breaking news alerts and more, click here.)
According to Booth, the Maserati then went through several front yards and hit a few mailboxes.

"After traveling up the side of the road for approximately 300 feet, the Maserati struck a tree, then burst into flames as it came to rest in the middle of Westhill Road, just east of Westover Road," Booth said in a statement.
The driver, a 22-year-old Stamford resident, and two passengers, both Stamford residents in their early 20's, were able to exit the vehicle, however all three men suffered various degrees of burns and other injuries, Booth said.

The two passengers were transported to Stamford Hospital with "significant but non-life threatening injuries," Booth said.
The driver was badly burned in the fire and transported to Stamford Hospital with life-threatening injuries, Booth said. He was later transported to the burn unit at Bridgeport Hospital and was listed in critical condition as of Tuesday night, Booth said.
