STAMFORD, CT — With the municipal election rapidly approaching on Nov. 2, candidates for local office are pulling out all the stops in order to reach the electorate.

On Tuesday, the Caroline Simmons for Mayor of Stamford campaign launched its first television commercial, and the first of the race for Stamford’s highest public office.

According to a news release from the campaign, "the 30-second commercial,'Stamford is Booming,' emphasizes Simmons' experience, passion, and commitment to Stamford, a city she has represented for the past eight years as State Representative and which she, husband Art Linares and two young sons call home."

Simmons' campaign says the commercial "makes clear the important choice facing voters on Nov. 2." Simmons is going up against unaffiliated candidate and Stamford native, Bobby Valentine, the former Major League Baseball player and manager, Athletic Director at Sacred Heart University, and Stamford public safety official.

In the 30 second spot, Simmons says, "We've had enough celebrities use their public office to feed their ego."

An image of a Stamford Advocate article criticizing Valentine for being out of town during Hurricane Irene in 2011 flashed on the screen. Valentine was the Director of Public Safety, Health & Welfare for Stamford at the time.

"I'm running for mayor to make Stamford a better city for you, to fix our roads, renovate our schools, and support our local businesses," Simmons added. "Together we can move Stamford forward."

The announcement from Simmons comes on the same day that Valentine announced a big campaign fundraising milestone. From early May through Sept. 30, Valentine said his campaign raised over $520,000.
