'China's Second Continent' World Affairs Forum Talk
The World Affairs Forum invites the public to a 9/17/14 Forum event at the Ferguson Library, 5:45 - 7:30 pm. Info, 203-356-0340.

Howard French, Associate Professor, Columbia University School of Journalism, will speak at the World Affairs Forum on September 17 at the Ferguson Library in Stamford. The program will begin at 5:45 P.M. with networking and refreshments, followed by the presentation at 6:15. The program will conclude at 7:30 P.M.
Howard French’s work has been published in The Atlantic, The New York Review of Books, The New York Times Magazine, The Nation, Rolling Stone, Transition, The Chronicle of Higher Education, The Crisis, and Travel and Leisure.
He has authored “China’s Second Continent: How a Million Migrants are Building a New Empire in Africa” and “A Continent for the Taking: The Tragedy and Hope of Africa”.

French is presently researching a book about the geopolitics of East Asia. He is also a documentary photographer, whose book, “Disappearing Shanghai: Images and Poems of an Intimate Way of Life,” with Qiu Xiaolong, was published in 2012.
French was twice the recipient of an Overseas Press Club Award, and he has also won the Grantham Environmental Award, among other awards, including an honorary doctorate from the University of Maryland. French was also a 2011 fellow of the Open Society Foundations.
