CT Dentist Installs 8 Crowns In 3-Year-old, State Sanctions Him
The dentist claimed the work was necessary. State officials disagreed.

BRISTOL, CT — In what a Connecticut official told the Hartford Courant was a "clear case of overtreatment," Terryville dentist Dr. Ammar Idlibi, who practices in Bristol, recently was fined by the state and placed on probation for giving a three-year-old girl eight steel crowns, all in one sitting.
The child's mother reportedly had thought the girl was going to receive one crown when she brought her to Dr. Idlibi, but the dentist argued that the crowns were necessary because he found additional tooth decay while working on the patient, writes Fox 61.
An attorney for the state argued that Idlibi should have informed the mother of the additional crowns before he installed them, which would have given the mother an opportunity for "informed consent."

While speaking to Fox 61, Idlibi said he did nothing wrong, and added that the child's mother signed the consent form to allow for the procedure.
Idlibi was fined $10,000 by the Connecticut State Dental Commission, and in addition to the three-year probation, he also was ordered to take ethics courses, the Courant reports. He tried to keep the discipline sealed, but that request was rejected by the state.

In a separate decision in 2014, the state fined Idlibi $2,000, according to the commission's webpage, for what the Courant writes was for improperly prescribing narcotics to himself and family members.
