CT DMV Cancels Scheduled Testing for Drivers

The Department of Motor Vehicles announced Monday afternoon that all knowledge and road skills tests for license applicants are canceled for Tuesday, Jan. 27 and Wednesday, Jan. 28 because of the winter storm.

Knowledge Test: Customers should wait for an e-mail from DMV regarding the cancelation, then visit ct.gov<https://legacy.ct.gov/owa/ct.gov/dmv/qsc>/<https://legacy.ct.gov/owa/ct.gov/dmv/qsc>dmv/<https://legacy.ct.gov/owa/ct.gov/dmv/qsc>qsc, enter their personal identification number and then follow the instructions.

Road Test: Customers should call 860-263-5700 within the Hartford area and those outside the Hartford area can call toll-free at 800-842-8222. DMV will also be contacting customers with appointments.

With the impending storm predicted to bring heavy amounts of snow, drivers of commercial and passenger vehicles are reminded about the requirement to remove snow and ice from hoods, trunks and roofs or face fines and penalties. The law also calls for stiffer penalties when there’s personal or property damage from the flying elements.

Drivers are exempt from the fines when the snow, sleet and freezing rain begins or continues while the vehicle is traveling. Parked vehicles are also exempt from the required removal of ice and snow.

As a reminder, AAA offices process driver’s license and ID card renewals. Please check with individual offices on whether they are open if weather conditions are poor. Customers can find specific information 24 hours a day on a non-driver identification, change of address and change of name. In addition, they have details regarding vehicle tax questions, records information, forms, emissions, inspections, operator’s licenses, titles and registrations and directions to DMV branch offices and photo license centers. They also supply details on boating registrations, handicapped driver training, commercial vehicle safety, and instructions on how to file a complaint against a dealer or repairer.
