Deceased Stamford Cop's Family Files Lawsuit to Receive Survivor's Benefits: Report

Officer Marcia Stella, 36, died four years after breaking up a fight at Cloonan Middle School.

STAMFORD, CT — The family of deceased Stamford Police Off. Marcia Stella is suing the city to receive survivor's benefits, reports the Stamford Advocate and the Connecticut Law Tribune.

Stella, 36, reportedly died accidentally, from a combination of antidepressants and painkillers, four years after breaking up a fight at Cloonan Middle School.

She sustained serious spinal, neck and shoulder injuries as a result of the incident, and required several surgeries in an effort to correct the situation. According to the Advocate, the police union considered her death as in the line of duty.
