DMV Office in Stamford Reopens Tuesday

The motor vehicle office had been shut down after the launch of the state's new computer system last month.

The Department of Motor Vehicles is scheduled to resume operations Tuesday at its four photo license centers around the state.

The Stamford center at 137 Henry St. is reopening today and all hours are by appointment only.

Last month the DMV temporarily suspended services following the launch of its new computer system.

The Oct. 10 deadline to renew licenses, identification cards and registrations whose due dates were extended in August due to the DMV computer upgrade is fast approaching.

Drivers can avoid going to DMV by visiting AAA offices. Those with registration renewals can go online at ct.gov/dmv/online to avoid visiting a DMV office.

Customers renewing registrations can check online for tax delinquencies, reports on overdue emissions tests or failure to have state-required vehicle insurance. These often hold up registration renewals.
