STAMFORD, CT — Edgehill, a continuing care retirement community in Stamford, welcomed its latest visiting author recently as part of the Edgehill Author’s Series, a new program that brings accomplished authors and speakers from across the country to speak to the community’s friends and residents.
Allison Kibler, Professor of American studies and women’s, gender & sexuality studies at Franklin & Marshall College and author of “Censoring Racial Ridicule: Irish, Jewish and African American Struggles Over Race and Representation, 1890-1930,” explored the relationship between free expression, democracy and equality in America during her presentation at the community.

The talk was followed by a Q&A session and book signing.
The Edgehill Author’s Series was founded by Edgehill resident Stephen Myers, a retired PhD physicist. For Myers, continued intellectual stimulation about cultural topics is key to healthy aging and keeping his mind sharp. Through a collaboration with the Greenwich Retired Men’s Association, Edgehill brings visiting authors to the community each month.

“Edgehill has a remarkable and varied series of events, many of which involve bringing outside people in,” said Myers in a news release. “There is a huge amount of activity that happens and a lot going on for intellectual stimulation. It is well known if you want to keep your mind sharp you need stimulation to do that. There is more than enough going on here to do that—it’s been great for us.”
The Author’s Series speakers and topics are extensive and varied, but never fail to pique the curiosity of residents. Edgehill recently welcomed Jim Campbell, author of the investigative story of Bernie Madoff, “Madoff Talks: Uncovering the Untold Story Behind the Most Notorious Ponzi Scheme in History.”
At Edgehill, learning and retirement go hand-in-hand. Seniors come to Edgehill for many reasons, including the beautiful campus, state-of-the-art facilities, exemplary cuisine, and engaging activities, but the real draw for many residents is the wide array of opportunities for lifelong learning and intellectual stimulation.
