Elderly Stamford Woman Conned Out of $25k: PD

She thought she was talking to someone from Publishers Clearing House.

STAMFORD, CT—An 82-year-old Stamford woman was swindled out of $25,000 after she sent a check as part of a sweepstakes scam, according to police.

The woman thought she was talking to people from Publishers Clearing House about a $33 million prize, according to the Stamford Advocate.

The scammer told her they needed a check for $25,050.21 to process her prize.
