Affordable Daytime Care Helps Seniors Thrive and Provides Relief To Family Caregivers

If you’re the son or daughter of an aging parent, chances are you’ve had to help your parent or loved one as their care needs increase. Often, it’s a struggle to keep up with your own personal responsibilities at the same time that parents require more hands-on help. A Unique Setting for Senior Care
Located at St. John’s Church, Evergreen at Luther Hall is the first adult day enrichment program of its kind in Stamford. Here, a unique studio setting offers everything from physical and cognitive exercise programs, creative arts and wellness activities, nutritious meals and more from 8am to 4pm daily. Specially-trained staff provide support and light care that is tailored to each member.
Evergreen caters to families in the “forgotten middle” whose seniors need a helping hand to stay active and engaged, but who don’t want to move into an assisted living community, or who don’t qualify for a PACE program paid for by Medicaid. Flexible daytime programs like Evergreen’s cost a fraction of the monthly fees of a senior living community, with no large entrance fee, because seniors return to the comfort of home at the end of the day.
Grounded in Compassionate Care
Founder Gabriel “Gabe” Corredor spent a large part of his career working in senior management in the assisted living and memory care industry and is passionate about helping seniors thrive. One day, his own father, a retired professor and restaurateur who loves to listen to classical music and who played tennis three times per week, was diagnosed with Mild Cognitive Impairment after suffering a fall. Although still physically independent, Gabe’s dad was missing socialization and engagement but was not ready for assisted living and needed more support than what a senior center could provide. This only fueled Gabe’s passion for finding a way that his father could once again experience engagement and connection in a safe, supervised setting.
“Every family has its own story, but a resounding commonality we hear from members’ families is that their Mom or Dad was living at home alone and doing nothing during the day. Most families are just stretched too thin during the work day to also care for a parent. They may try to find outside help, but that experience is just hit or miss at best. At Evergreen, our programs encourage seniors to maintain their interests and hobbies, not give them up. If they need a hand with walking or toileting, we help. All our programs are tailored to the needs and preferences of each individual, and we make sure that they have a fun and memorable day.” Gabe believes that Evergreen is a symbol of seniors’ ability to experience growth, joy, and happiness well into their adult years, no matter what their circumstances or limitations may be.
Specially-trained staff
Evergreen at Luther Hall currently employs an on-site Executive Director, a Program Director and Member Advocates, each of whom received training from the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners. This distinction demonstrates Evergreen’s commitment to quality programming, informed staff, and sensitivity to seniors. According to Gabe, “From our trained staff to daily stimulating cognitive and physical activities to nutritious meals at an affordable cost, Evergreen is something that seniors cannot experience living at home alone.”
