Driver Killed on Merritt Parkway By Fallen Tree Identified [Update]
The man killed in Thursday's accident has been identified as Norman Gamache, 74, of Westport, Mass.
The driver killed in Thursday's accident on the Merritt Parkway in Stamford has been identified as Norman Gamache, 74, of Westport, Mass., according to state police.
Another passenger, Goldie S. Gitlin, 84, of North Dartmouth, Mass., was taken to to be treated for a fractured sternum and minor injuries to her left hand. A third passenger, Jessica Eisenberg, 24, of Scarsdale, NY, was uninjured.
According to the state police accident report, Gamache was traveling in the right lane of the Merritt Parkway southbound through the city in heavy rain when a tree located off the road to the right fell on the vehicle’s roof. When firefighters arrived, the passengers were extricated from the vehicle and EMS personnel pronounced Gamache dead at the scene.

The accident closed both southbound lanes for several hours Thursday afternoon.
