The Ferguson Library And The Palace Theatre Present ArtsKids Interactive Arts Education Workshops

Workshops in music, theater, and dance at The Palace Theatre. For kids in grades 2 to 4.

The Ferguson Library and The Palace Theatre present ArtsKids Interactive Arts Education Workshops, featuring Saturday morning classes in music, theater and dance. Workshops are for children in grades 2 to 4 and will take place at The Palace Theatre at 61 Atlantic Street, Stamford. Registration is required for each workshop. (Please choose one workshop per child.) Saturday, October 14 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. – MUSIC

Drumming with teaching artist Dave Lewitt. This workshop will include hand drumming (on djembes) and stick drumming (on buckets) and clapping. Rhythms will include beats and grooves from West African drumming, hip hop, drumline and street drumming. (No previous drumming experience necessary.)

Saturday, November 4 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. – THEATER

Theater Games and Improvisation with teaching artist Mathilde Dratwa. This workshop will consist of ensemble-building and confidence-building exercises as well as improvisational activities. Students will work individually, in pairs, in small groups and as an ensemble to learn some of the basic tenants of improvisation as well as physical comedy. They will be introduced to theater skills that are easily transferrable and will serve them in school and in life, such as voice projection, teamwork and collaboration.

Saturday, December 9 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. – DANCE

Hip Hop/Jazz Funk with teaching artist Dina Giordano. This workshop will combine the fun and funky nature of hip hop along with the technical aspects of jazz dance. Instruction will include a complete warm-up, stretch and across the floor combinations learning and practicing the elements of both styles. By the end of the class, students will have learned choreography incorporating both jazz and hip hop into one cohesive routine.
