Fire Breaks Out In Garage Area Of Stamford Home: FD

STAMFORD, CT — Firefighters extinguished a blaze that broke out in the garage area of a home in the North Stamford area of the city early Friday morning.

In a news release, Deputy Chief Matt Palmer said the fire broke out at a home on Smoke Hill Drive shortly after midnight. (To sign up for Stamford breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

Crews from the Stamford, Long Ridge, Turn of River and Belltown fire departments all responded to the area and found a "well-involved fire" in the home's garage area, which was rapidly extending into the floors above the garage, Palmer said.

The home's residents were able to safely evacuate before firefighters arrived, Palmer said. No injuries were reported.

"The home is located in an area of North Stamford without nearby hydrants," Palmer said in a news release. "The lack of hydrants required the use of an extensive mutual aid plan utilizing two water tanker task force groups that involved numerous area fire departments from Connecticut and New York."

The fire was ultimately brought under control within 90 minutes, Palmer said. Stamford police and EMS crews provided assistance, and the city fire marshal's office is investigating the cause of fire, Palmer said.
