Fire Causes Heavy Damage To Single-Family Home: Stamford FD

The Stamford Fire Department said a fire broke out at a single family home on Dec. 3, causing "serious structural damage."

STAMFORD, CT — An early-morning fire over the weekend severely damaged a single-family home in Stamford, and one firefighter suffered a minor injury while battling the blaze, according to the Stamford Fire Department.

At 12:37 a.m., on Dec. 3, the Stamford 911 dispatch center received multiple calls about a structure fire located in the 300 block of Hamilton Avenue, Capt. Philip Hayes of the SPD said in a news release.

Units from the Glenbrook Fire Department were dispatched, reported heavy fire visible from the rear of the single-family home.

As firefighters began to battle the blaze, crews searched the home and found that the residents were able to escape the flames before the first units arrived, Hayes said.

The fire was brought under control at 1:12 a.m. Crews worked for several more hours to completely extinguish hotspots, Hayes noted, adding that Hamilton Avenue was closed.

One firefighter suffered a minor foot injury but was not taken to the hospital, Hayes said. Stamford Emergency Medical Services stood by during the call.

The Stamford Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the fire.
