Fire Displaces 24 Residents In Stamford: FD

The Stamford Fire Department said the fire broke out shortly after 7 p.m. on March 10.

STAMFORD, CT — Twenty-four residents were displaced by a fire and subsequent water damage in a multi-family home in Stamford's West Side Sunday night, according to fire officials.

At 7:19 p.m. on March 10, the Stamford 911 center received multiple calls reporting a house fire in the 20 block of Taff Ave., the Stamford Fire Department said in a news release.

Engine 3 from the SFD's West Side Firehouse arrived and found "fire venting from the top floor rear" of a three-story multi-family house.

A hose line was stretched up an interior staircase, and firefighters were able to quickly contain the blaze and prevent it from extending to the top floor apartment, the SFD said.

The fire was placed under control at 7:55 p.m.

No injuries were reported to any residents or firefighters. A pet hamster was safely rescued by firefighters, the SFD said.

The 24 residents who were impacted by the fire were provided hotel rooms by the landlord, the SFD said.

Overall, 26 fire personnel responded to the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Stamford Fire Marshal's Office.
