Gender Pronouns Removed From Stamford's Legislative Rules: Report

The pronouns "he," "she," "him" or "her" have been removed from the Board of Representatives' rules.

STAMFORD, CT — The legislative rules in Stamford will no longer carry the gender pronouns "he," "she," "him" or "her" following a recent decision by the city's Board of Representatives, reports the Stamford Advocate. In their place, the rules will now refer to titles, such as "clerk" or "president."

The legislature made the change at the behest of new Representatives Raven Matherne, Nina Sherwood and Megan Cottrell, who were elected in the fall. Matherne is Connecticut's first openly transgender elected official, according to the publication.

Stamford is the state's first legislative body to adopt the new rules, which are LGBTQ inclusive, and the decision has drawn praise from board members and advocacy groups.
