GoFundMe Effort Started To Help Stamford Family Affected By Fire

A family was misplaced and their dog was killed after a fire broke out at a residence on Cove Road earlier this month.

STAMFORD, CT — A GoFundMe fundraiser has raised over $5,400 in about a week to help a Stamford family that was misplaced by a fire earlier this month.

Around 10:43 p.m. on March 13, firefighters were called to 295 Cove Road on a report of a structure fire. Firefighters quickly contained the fire to the area of origin inside a residence, and prevented flames from spreading to an adjacent residence, but damage was already done.

"Rose and her family awoke to the smell of smoke in their apartment - before the smoke detectors had a chance to sound the alarm. The following minutes saw their apartment engulfed in flames as firefighters approached to contain the fire," said fundraiser organizer, James Ranges, in the fundraiser description.

"Rose, her three sons, and her grandson were all able to escape safely from the apartment, suffering no bodily harm. Unfortunately, due to the speed and severity of the fire, the family dog succumbed to the heat and smoke and was unable to be resuscitated by emergency services. All personal belongings were destroyed in the blaze," Ranges added.

Two firefighters were evaluated and treated at the scene by Stamford Emergency Medical Services for minor injuries, the department noted in a news release last week. The firefighters were not transported to the hospital and returned back to duty following the fire.

Ranges said all donations will go directly to Rose and her family as they begin their recovery process from the fire.
