Has Stamford-Based Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Started Reducing Work Force?

The company says no, but others disagree.

Stamford, CT - Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, the Stamford-based hotelier, reportedly has begun to slowly reduce its headcount at its headquarters in the city, but the company is denying those claims.

The Stamford Advocate cites sources who tell the publication that as Starwood prepares for a merger with Marriott International, it is winding down some of its operations in Stamford.

Starwood has a lease through 2034 on office space in Stamford, but Marriott is reportedly looking for space in the Washington DC area for a combined headquarters.

Carrie Bloom, Starwood's vice president of global corporate communications, told the Advocate that neither buyouts nor layoffs have occurred in Stamford. And the company plans to keep the vast majority of its employees in the city through the end of year, and some beyond then.
