Longtime Member Of Stamford Recreation Retires

STAMFORD, CT — Superintendent of Recreation Laurie Albano has retired after working for the city of Stamford for 25 years.

"When I look back on my career, the city of Stamford will always be my number one and where my heart lies," said Albano in a news release. "I have so many great memories. I would like to thank all those that helped me along the way, especially the great city staffers I was blessed to have in recreation, the [Terry Conners] ice rink and the E. Gaynor Brennan golf course. I will miss you all and I'm very proud of the work we've done."

In 1997, Albano was hired as a coordinator of recreation services. During her tenure, she reorganized staff and grew new programs and adult sports leagues up to the current number of over 300 programs per year.

From 2013 to 2016, Albano served as the acting superintendent of both Parks and Recreation as well as administrative bureau chief.

In 2016, Albano also became the manager of Terry Conners Ice Rink and the E. Gaynor Brennan golf course.

"Throughout her time with the city of Stamford, Laurie worked to achieve revenue and process efficiency and effectiveness in her respective departments, created field policies and permit systems, and managed fully functional day camps for youth," a news release from the Mayor's Office said.

Albano is an active member of both the Connecticut and National Parks Recreation Association. She holds a master’s degree in parks and recreation administration and was named Outstanding Professional of the Year by the Connecticut Parks and Recreation Association in 2017.

Mayor Caroline Simmons congratulated Albano in a news release.
