Man Accused Of Attacking, Threatening City Employee: Stamford Police

STAMFORD, CT — A 39-year-old man is being accused of knocking a city of Stamford public works employee to the ground and threatening him with a knife during an incident at Veterans Park last month, according to the Stamford Police Department.

Rodolphe Moresca, a Stamford resident, was arrested last week on a warrant that charges him with second-degree threatening; second-degree reckless endangerment; possession of a dangerous weapon; and two counts of breach of peace, Asst. Police Chief Richard Conklin said.

A $50,000 bond was placed on the charges, but Moresca, who has prior convictions, was remanded to custody by his parole officer for violating his parole, Conklin said.

On Dec. 1 shortly after 12 p.m., in Veterans Park downtown, a man, later identified as Moresca, was walking with a woman near a public works employee who was clearing the park with a leaf blower, Conklin said.

"[Moresca] is upset because he feels some dust is pushed his way. He runs over and punches the city of Stamford employee, knocks him to the ground, pulls out a knife and threatens the victim," Conklin said.

The employee was treated for minor injuries, Conklin said.

The man left the area quickly and went south on Atlantic Street, Conklin noted. The SPD's Major Crimes Unit launched an investigation.

Conklin said investigators had some video footage of the area near where the incident took place, but had little else to work with because it was a cold day and the suspect was bundled up. He was, however, wearing distinctive clothing, Conklin said.

Investigators Luis Serna and Matt Romano surveillanced Atlantic Street, and several days later noticed a man walking by wearing the same exact clothing. The suspect was idntidied as Moresca, who is familiar to the SPD, Conklin said.

Moresca was arrested in the 40 block of Atlantic Street on Dec. 30. He was in possession of a knife at the time, Conklin said.

"This was a very aggressive, unprovoked attack downtown mid-day," Conklin said. "These investigators did a very nice follow-up on a difficult case."
