STAMFORD, CT — A 33-year-old man is accused of pointing an airsoft pellet gun at a mail carrier in Stamford, according to police.

The incident occurred on April 6 when a mail carrier was making deliveries near the 300 block of East Middle Patent Road, Asst. Stamford Police Chief Richard Conklin said. Homes on the road have Greenwich addresses but are located in Stamford.

Conklin said the man was wearing a black ski mask and pointed a black pellet gun at the front window of the mail truck.

The mail carrier immediately drove away, and officers responded to the home, recovered the pellet gun and arrested the man, who was charged with first-degree threatening, a Class D felony, and breach of peace, a misdemeanor, Conklin said.

Police refuted rumors of an armed robbery, which they said were circulating on social media. Greenwich police Capt. Mark Zuccerella said the incident was isolated, and not related to an area-wide problem of mail theft.

Conklin noted the incident appeared to have been caused by mental health issues. The man was released from custody later in the day.
