The man fell down the stairs and spent six weeks in the hospital.

STAMFORD, CT- A former Stamford man was awarded $2 million after he fell down an apartment stairwell and sustained serious injuries.
The property on Iriving Avenue had no staircase handrail and led to Carlos Silva's fall in 2010, according to the Stamford Advocate.
Silva returned home to Peru after he lost his job as a window dresser. He spent six weeks in the hospital.

Landlords Sara Lima and Leonidas Carias had limited homeowners' insurance and no liability insurance. Their attorney said that they didn't have enough money to pay for an expert witness who could testify about Silva's intoxicated state when he fell.
They will declare bankruptcy, according to their lawyer.
