STAMFORD, CT — A Stamford man was arrested last week in connection with a pistol-whipping incident that occurred outside a city restaurant in October and left another man injured.

Jean Prosper, 36, turned himself in to police on Nov. 8 on a warrant that charges him with second-degree assault with a firearm, Assistant Stamford Police Chief Richard Conklin said.

The incident occurred on Oct. 18 at approximately 11 p.m. According to Conklin, the victim and a friend went to have dinner and drinks at Brennan's By The Beach on Iroquois Road when they ran into a man later identified as Prosper.

"It sounds like they had an ongoing dispute going between them and some words were exchanged at the bar," Conklin said. "As the victim and his friend left the bar, they met with Jean Prosper outside and an argument ensued. It's alleged that Prosper removed a pistol that he was carrying and pistol-whipped the victim on the side of the head."

The parties left, and the next day, the victim went to the hospital for treatment to close a wound on the left side of his head, and he also reported the incident to police, Conklin said.

Following an investigation by the Stamford Police Department's detective bureau and major crimes unit, an arrest warrant was secured for Prosper, Conklin said, noting Prosper was able to post a $25,000 bond.

Prosper's Connecticut pistol permit was seized and referred to the Connecticut State Police for revocation, as was the firearm, Conklin added.
