If you’re planning to visit state Superior Court, it’s best you leave your weed at home.

That could be the lesson learned by a 25-year-old man who’s facing marijuana possession charges after he was found to have 23 plastic bags filled with the green leafy drug stuffed down his pants, according to Connecticut State Police.

It seems that Joseph A. Carey, of 2 W. Couch St., Norwalk, caught the attention of a court marshal manning the metal detector station in the Stamford courthouse Wednesday morning because of “an abnormal bulge in the front of (his) pants,” according to a state police report.

Carey, who was described as “very nervous, sweating and not listening to any instructions given to him,” told the marshal that “the bulge was an air freshener in the front of his pants.” After Carey unzipped his trousers, the marshal “removed … a plastic container containing 23 plastic” bags with a “plant-like substance which looked and smelled like marijuana,” according to the police report.

The marshal then brought Carey to courthouse lockup where state police arrested him.

Carey was charged with possession of 25.2 grams of marijuana and possession with intent to sell. He was held in lieu of $5,000 bond and scheduled to return to the Stamford courthouse for an appliance on Oct. 22.
