Man Sentenced to 14 Years for Stamford Baby's Death

The three-month-old died more than three years ago while in the care of the suspect.

A Stamford man has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for first-degree manslaughter in connection with the death of a three-month-old boy left in his care.

Osvaldo Romero also was sentenced Monday to a decade for risk of injury to a minor, a sentence that will run concurrently to the manslaughter sentence, according to The Advocate. Romero must serve to six years of special parole .

It was in December 2011 that 3-month old William Zamore was sexually assaulted and fatally injured. In the days following the incident, Osvaldo Romero, then 22, of 146 Henry St., agreed to be interviewed by Stamford detectives and admitted he shook the baby after he had fallen off a bed and was unresponsive.

Romero was babysitting the infant upon the request of the mother who was a former girlfriend, according to the report.

An autopsy showed the baby died from injuries common to shaken baby syndrome. It also showed the baby had been sexually assaulted, although the person responsible for the assault has not be found.
