Mayor Simmons Presents Proposed 2026-2027 Stamford Budget
The total combined city and Board of Education expense budget and reserve for contingency is $747.3 million.

STAMFORD, CT — Mayor Caroline Simmons this week presented Stamford's 2026-2027 capital and operating budgets in a joint meeting with the Board of Finance and Board of Representatives Fiscal Committee.
According to an announcement from Simmons' office, the total combined city and Board of Education expense budget and reserve for contingency is $747.3 million, a combined increase of 6.3 percent.
"This budget upholds my administration’s commitment to fiscal responsibility and ensuring high-quality and reliable city services for Stamford residents," Simmons said in an announcement. "By managing costs and prioritizing investments in public safety, education, and infrastructure, we are strengthening our city’s foundation for long-term growth while addressing current needs that enhance quality of life. I look forward to working with the Boards throughout this budget season to ensure we deliver a responsible budget that supports and invests in all Stamford residents."

The city’s capital budget proposes $73.1 million in capital project requests and prioritizes investments in public safety, schools, parks and sustainability, roads, sidewalks, and pedestrian safety, affordable housing, and new community initiatives.

- Public Safety: Funding for eight additional firefighters to meet the growing needs of the city and increase the Stamford Fire Department’s staffing levels, enhancing public safety citywide, and funding in the capital budget to support police and fire equipment, technology, and vehicles.
- Affordable Housing: $3 million in funding to support 500 new and upgraded affordable housing units.
- Education: Allocating $10 million into the school construction Fund 57 to support the Long-Term Facilities Plan and an additional $14 million in the capital budget to support projects across all Stamford Public Schools.
- Roads/Sidewalks/Pedestrian Safety: Funding to keep pace with the Pave Stamford Road paving program, improve sidewalks and pedestrian safety, as well as Cove and East Side roadway improvements, traffic signal improvements, and bike and pedestrian infrastructure enhancements.
- Parks and Sustainability: Investments in city parks, including new tennis and basketball courts at Cove Island Park, upgrades at Stamford High Boyle Stadium, all-season accessible bathrooms, renovations to the playground at Hatchfield Park, citywide tree planting, drainage improvements, and seawall upgrades.
