Millions Paid In Fatal Badger Fire Settlement: Report

The amount of one of the settlements with the City of Stamford has been revealed.

STAMFORD, CT — The estates of Lilly, Sarah and Grace Badger, the three children killed in the 2011 Christmas fire in Stamford, will receive a total of $6.65 million under the settlement reached between the estates and the city, reports the Stamford Advocate.

Officials announced in early May that the sides had reached the settlement, but the amount has only recently come to light. More than $3.8 million will go to the estates, more than $2.5 million to attorneys and disbursements and $250,000 to the Girl Scouts of America, according to the publication.

The late Matthew Badger, the children's father, filed the lawsuit against the city and contractors involved in renovating the Shippan home where the fire took place. In addition to the three girls, two adults were killed.

In the case, city officials were accused of inadequate inspections, mishandling evidence and other allegations.

"The parties consider the settlement to be fair," stated both sides in May. "The claims were resolved without reflecting any liability or fault on the part of the defendants."
