STAMFORD, CT — What started as a 350 square foot office in Darien in 2015 will now turn into a 20,000 square foot office in Stamford in 2022.

On Monday, Gov. Ned Lamont announced that Mirador, LLC., a leading managed services firm in the wealth management industry, is expanding its operations in Connecticut and moving its headquarters from 10 Corbin Drive in Darien to 850 Canal St. in Stamford.

Mirador began 2022 with 65 employees. The company has already added 35 to its headcount, and is on its way to adding about 250 more jobs in the state over the next three years.

The Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development is supporting the move to Stamford by providing a grant in arrears up to $3.2 million, contingent upon the firm creating and retaining 250 new, full-time jobs.

Lamont made the announcement during a news conference inside Mirador's new fourth floor space, which is expected to be ready by the end of this summer. He welcomed the company to Stamford, and said the state of Connecticut and Stamford are both going through a transition.

"We're working hard to create an ecosystem that is welcoming and friendly to a younger demographic," Lamont said. "What we've got to do is make sure you don't have to look far and you can get the skill set and people you need right here in this greater region."

Lamont said he sees the next generation of fintech developing in Stamford — ITT Inc., Digital Currency Group and Tomo all recently relocated to Stamford.

Lamont hopes that in 10 years, financial and technology services are "grounded in Stamford, not on Wall Street."

Mirador was founded in 2015 by Joseph Larizza, who had quit his job after several years with other investment firms.

The company consists of a team of financial and technology experts "dedicated to leveraging decades of industry experience to enable financial success for families, endowments, foundations and wealth managers," according to a news release from Lamont's office on the announcement. "Focused on performance reporting services and technology consulting and solutions, Mirador represents the next generation in technology-enabled analysis and reporting to the wealth management industry."

Mirador began at 10 Corbin Drive in Darien in 2015 with one U.S.-based client. Since then, it is now serving more than 170 clients in the high-net-worth wealth management segment around the world, Lamont's office said. Their clients’ total "assets under administration" currently exceeds hundreds of billions in wealth.

The company needed a new location to accommodate such rapid growth, Larizza said. Stamford fit the bill.

"Whoever says that Fairfield County is not a place to draw people, and you need to go to a place like New York City, completely has it wrong with what's going on here in Stamford," Larizza said Monday. "Not only was Connecticut the right place, but Stamford was the right place."

Larizza said Mirador is hiring across the 42 colleges and universities in Connecticut, and even people outside of the U.S. are showing interest in joining the company.

"This is a place that's really going to be able to command us to get good paying career jobs for people in the industry. We're looking forward to our next chapter," Larizza added.

Peter Denious, CEO of the nonprofit AdvanceCT, helped bring Mirador to Stamford in a collaborative effort with Lamont and the city of Stamford. He said Monday he was thrilled about the move, especially because there were other options to choose from.

"This company is growing explosively. It's really amazing," Denious said. "We had to make a case for Connecticut, and we're absolutely thrilled they chose to stay and they chose Stamford."

Mayor Caroline Simmons was also in attendance Monday to welcome Mirador to Stamford.

"We're so grateful you chose our city, and we're so lucky to have you here," Simmons said. "Thank you for staying in Connecticut and choosing Stamford to bring your incredibly innovative and growing company, and all of these excellent high paying jobs to our city."
