STAMFORD, CT — A New York man is accused of stealing nearly $3,000 worth of merchandise from a store in the Stamford Town Center mall, police said. According to Sgt. Michael Franzetti, Macy's store security contacted police Saturday around 6:30 p.m. and said they had Stephen Kinlaw, 34, of Mount Vernon, N.Y., in custody for shoplifting.

Security said Kinlaw was seen hiding several coats and tote bags and leaving the store without paying for them. Franzetti said they recovered ten items, collectively worth about $2,900.

Kinlaw was released on a promise to appear in court later this month, Franzetti said.
