New Chief Building Official Hired In Stamford
He replaces Robert DeMarco, Stamford's longtime Chief Building Official who recently retired.

From the City of Stamford: Mayor David Martin has announced that he has appointed a new Chief Building Official, Bharat Gami, to run the City’s Building Department. Mr. Gami most recently served as the Chief Plan Examiner Manhattan Plan Examination Unit, for the NYC Department of Buildings (DOB).
“We are happy to have Bharat join us as the new Chief Building Official for our growing City,” said Mayor Martin. “Bharat’s extensive experience in both the public and private sectors will be beneficial to the building permit process and code compliance for all types of residences and commercial buildings in Stamford. We welcome Bharat’s new perspective, management skills, and leadership experience and believe that he will be an asset to our City.”
For the past decade, Bharat has focused his efforts on construction code compliance using web-based collaborative technologies. He participated in the development and implementation of a web-based portal known as DOB NOW at NYC Department of Buildings, which is currently being rolled out.

As the founding director of NYC HUB Self Service unit, he provided leadership and operational oversight for an online permit process, which processes more than 1,800 permit applications every month. In addition, Bharat has also played an integral role in the development of operational procedures for online review of Work Place Safety Plans for construction, demolition and asbestos abatement projects throughout New York City.
Prior to joining the NYC Department of Buildings, he practiced as an architect for fifteen years. His built projects have received awards for design excellence, smart growth and innovations in construction, and have been published in professional magazines such as Environmental Design and Construction, Design Cost Data, and Remodeling News. His educational background includes Master’s degrees in architecture from MIT and Business Management from CUNY.
