New HS Attendance Rules Take Effect In Stamford Jan. 2

The City of Stamford operates three public high schools.

STAMFORD, CT — When students come back from winter break next week, high school students will do so with revised attendance regulations.

Stamford Public Schools — in consultation with teachers and administrators from the district’s three high schools, as well as members of the City of Stamford’s Youth Services Bureau—is updating regulation 5113A-R governing high school attendance.

The city's three public high schools are The Academy of Information Technology; Westhill High School; and Stamford High School.

This update will eliminate loss of credit penalties tied to attendance and codify a multi-tiered system of support for students who are not meeting attendance expectations.

The regulation outlines expectations for class attendance, defines the types of absences and tardies and required documentation for each, outlines loss of credit based on attendance and the process for appealing loss of credit, and dictates how the regulation should be communicated to students and families.
