Nominations Open For 2027 Stamford Citizen Of The Year Award

The award honors individuals who promote interfaith harmony, civic responsibility, public welfare, and meaningful contributions to Stamford.

STAMFORD, CT — Mayor Caroline Simmons announced this week that nominations are now being accepted for the 2027 City of Stamford Citizen of the Year (COTY) Award.

"Stamford is fortunate to be home to so many residents who give their time, energy, and talents to make our community stronger," Simmons said in an announcement. "The Citizen of the Year award is an opportunity to celebrate those who go above and beyond in service to others, and I encourage residents to nominate someone who embodies the spirit of our city and makes a meaningful difference in the lives of others."

  • Stamford police Sgt. Adriana Molina, 2024 Citizen of the Year
  • Harry Day, 2025 Citizen of the Year
  • Dr. Maggie Young, 2026 Citizen of the Year
  • Stephen Fischer, commander, Jewish War Veterans Post 142
  • Ray Mazzeo, principal, senior planner, Redniss and Mead - At-Large
  • Matt Greenberg, executive director, Jewish Family Services - At-Large

"It’s always wonderful to celebrate our COTY’s dedication and commitment to Stamford through their impactful service. An added benefit is learning about the background of our honorees," noted Co-Chair Gary H. Stone.

"Also, honoring veterans and high school seniors who for their deep commitment to Stamford adds to the celebration," added Co-Chair Rick Redniss.

Molina said se was "honored" to serve as the chair of the committee responsible for selecting the next award recipient.

"Having had the privilege of receiving this distinction in 2024, it is especially meaningful to now help carry forward this 81-year tradition of recognizing individuals who have made a lasting impact on our community," Molina said.

The committee's criteria for selecting the award recipient have remained the same since the founding of the award in 1945.

The chosen nominee shall:

  • Demonstrate a belief in interfaith harmony.
  • Possess the highest standards of responsibility in civic life.
  • Help in the promotion of projects for the public welfare.
  • Have a meaningful connection to the City of Stamford and have made significant contributions to the betterment of the city.

Nominations must include a bullet point summary of the nominee’s background supporting the criteria listed above.
