Nursing Homes in Stamford, Shelton Fined after Patient Deaths

The separate deaths occurred at the facilities in January.

STAMFORD, CT - The nursing homes Long Ridge Post-Acute Care in Stamford and Apple Rehab Shelton Lakes in Shelton separately were fined thousands of dollars by the state Department of Public Health following patient deaths at both facilities.

Long Ridge Post-Acute Care was found to have mishandled the patient's death on Jan. 24, and was fined more than $5,000, reports Connecticut Health I-Team. The facility was cited for erroneous record keeping that confused whether there was a "do not resuscitate" order on file, and over miscommunication between nursing staff and physicians, according to I-Team.

Apple Rehab Shelton Lakes was fined $3,000 following the Jan. 22 death of a patient for which CPR was not initiated. The patient had an order on file prohibing intubation, which a registered nurse was said to believe meant CPR should not be initiated, according to I-Team.
