Obituary: Joseph Anthony Aniello, 94, Of Stamford
Joe was a constant presence in his neighborhood and was known to always lend a helping hand to his neighbors.

Joseph Anthony Aniello, 94, passed away peacefully on December 12th, 2022. Joseph ("Joe") was a lifelong resident of Stamford, CT. Born to the late Benedetta (Perella) and Antonio Aniello on June 12th, 1928, Joe is predeceased by sisters Marie Venneri, Victoria Lupinacci, and Ruth Mattis.
Joe had many passions and interests. He loved nature and the outdoors, and was always up for a hike. He played tennis regularly into his 80's and was an avid skier as well. He loved classical music and opera and enjoyed sharing his favorite recordings with family and friends. He was also a constant presence in his neighborhood and was known to always lend a helping hand to his neighbors.

Joe made a living as a diesel mechanic and was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 478 for 55 Years. His employers included Telesco and Company, D'Addario Construction, and East Coast Auto Body.
Joe served his country during the Korean Conflict, and was stationed in Hokkaido, Japan. He earned an honorable discharge in November 1952 and was awarded a Korean Service Medal w/1 Bronze Service Star, an Army Occupation Medal (Japan), a UN Service Medal, and a Combat Infantry Badge.

Joe is also predeceased by his loving wife of 47 years, Jenny, and by his son-in-law, Maurice. He is survived by daughter Jo-Anne O'Mahony; Grandchildren Alison Cmiel and James O'Mahony (Amanda Larson); Great-Grandchildren Hadley Cmiel, Bianka Gebhardt, Whitney O'Mahony, and Phoebe O'Mahony; and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be on Saturday, December 17th from 9:00-10:00 am at the Lacerenza Funeral Home, 8 Schuyler Ave. Stamford, CT 06902. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 at Sacred Heart Church, 37 Schuyler Ave. Stamford, CT 06902. Internment will follow at St. John's Catholic Cemetery, 405-408 Hope St. and Camp Ave., Darien, CT.
