Obituary: Lois Jeanne Simms, 98, Of Stamford

Outside of her career as a homemaker and mother of three, Jeanne was a talented quilter and seamstress.

Lois Jeanne (Webb) Simms passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 27, in Stamford, Connecticut, at the age of 98.

She was born in her family home in Chelsea, Oklahoma, on November 19, 1925, the youngest of eleven children of George Reuben Webb and Jennie Ruth (Major) Webb. She attended Chelsea public schools and later enrolled in Tulsa University, where she met her future husband, Frank A. Simms. Frank became a morning radio host on KVOO before moving the family to Connecticut in 1952, where he began a notable career as an announcer on such TV shows as The Garry Moore Show, The Merv Griffin Show and Candid Camera, and as a commercial spokesman.

Outside of her career as a homemaker and mother of three, Jeanne was a talented quilter and seamstress. After the death of her husband in 1976, she enjoyed occasional secretarial temp work and became a volunteer case worker in the Stamford office of Stewart B. McKinney, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. She also enjoyed frequent foreign travel to Europe and Central America accompanied by her late niece, Patsy Ruth (Webb) Staletovich.

Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her parents, four brothers (Willie, Lynn, George Jr. and Bob), six sisters (Ruby, Pauline, Mabel, Mildred, Josephine and Mary) and one grandson (Samuel Henry Simms). She is survived by her three sons (Frank, George and Stephen), two granddaughters, two great-grandsons, and several nieces and nephews.

Local arrangements are being handled by the Thomas M. Gallagher Funeral Home in Stamford. The family wishes to acknowledge the loving care and compassion she received from the staff members of Sunrise Senior Living and The Villa at Stamford. In keeping with her wishes, no funeral services are anticipated. Her ashes will be interred in the family plot in Chelsea Cemetery alongside three of her sisters.
