Obituary: Marketta Orrico, 64, Of Stamford

Marketta Orrico, of Stamford CT passed away June 22, 2023 surrounded by her loved ones. She bravely faced her cancer diagnosis while keeping a strong, positive attitude throughout her 2 year illness.

She was born and raised in Siilinjarvi, Finland to Tuure Olavi Alanne and Tyyne Kuisma Alanne. After coming to the United States, she met and married her husband Peter Orrico, Jr. They built a home in Stamford, CT where she enjoyed hosting many gatherings with family and friends. She loved her career, working as a certified paralegal for over 30 years for several prestigious law firms in Stamford and Greenwich. She inherited her love of gardening from her father and was a devoted Formula 1 racing fan. An avid reader, Marketta could usually be found with a book in her hand, a mystery on TV, or traveling the world with her husband Peter. She was always ready to travel, taking trips throughoutEurope, Finland, Africa, and loved skiing in Vermont and the Austrian Alps. She especially enjoyed the tropical beaches of her beloved St. John, USVI where she and Peter vacationed each year with family and friends.

Marketta is survived by her husband Peter, her Mother Tyyne, her sister Anne Alanne and her husband Jarmo Lehtovaara of Finland. She was predeceased by her Father Tuure, her brother Martti Alanne, andsister-in-law Kimberly Orrico Gillick. Marketta is also survived by her mother-in-law and father-in-law Peter and Eleanor Orrico, of Cos Cob, sister-in-law Deborah Orrico Chonka (Bradford), of Old Greenwich,brothers-in-law Kevin Gillick, of Riverside, and Patrick Orrico (Monica), of Woodstock, GA. She will be greatly missed by several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

To honor Marketta’s life, family and friends will gather on Tuesday, June 27 from 4:00-8:00 pm at Castiglione’s Funeral Home, 544 OldPost Road #3, Greenwich, CT. There will be a funeral mass on Wednesday, June 28 at 10:00 am at St.Agnes Church, 274 Stanwich Road, Greenwich, CT.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Stamford Health Bennett Cancer Center or a charity of one’s choice.
