Obituary: Rita Rainone, 91, Of Stamford

Rita was an avid bowler and bocce ball player, and loved the New York Yankees. She was also very active with Sacred Heart Church.

Rita Mary Rainone, 91, a resident of Stamford, CT, passed away on November 3, 2022, at Stamford Hospital.

She was born on March 5, 1931, in Stamford, the daughter of Alexander and Theresa Benevelli. She graduated from the Convent of the Sacred Heart, Stamford.

Rita worked into her 80s, first as a bookkeeper at Globe Slicing and later as Business Manager at St. Aloysius Church in New Canaan. She was an avid bowler and bocce ball player, and loved the NY Yankees. Rita was an active parishioner and member of many committees and organizations at Sacred Heart Church. She received several accolades from the Archdiocese of Bridgeport, as well as from Sacred Heart. Rita was honored as a ‘Mother’ of St. Aloysius Church.

Rita is survived by her sons, Richard and Ronald, Ron’s wife Corey and grandson, Alex. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Catherine, and a brother-in-law, Joseph, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Rita is predeceased by her beloved husband of 56 years, Carl. They were awarded a Papal Blessing on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at Sacred Heart Church, 27 Schuyler Avenue on Monday, November 7, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery. Friends may call at Lacerenza Funeral Home (8 Schuyler Avenue), between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Sunday, November 6, 2022.
