Officials Call for Federal Transportation Aid to Repair Stamford Bridge

Mayor Martin, Congressman Himes met underneath a crumbling bridge that spans Metro-North railroad.

Local and federal officials gathered Monday beneath a crumbling I-95 bridge in Stamford, using it as a backdrop to call on Congress to extend federal transportation money to repair structurally deficient bridges across Connecticut.

Mayor David Martin was joined by U.S. Rep. Jim Himes, (D-4) and Don Shubert, president of the Connecticut Construction Industries Association, issued a collective call for a federal transportation bill as they stood underneath the Interstate-95 bridge over the Metro-North tracks near North State Street.

Himes said the bridge has been rated by the Federal Highway Administration as one of the top 10 most structurally deficient bridges in Connecticut, according to The Advocate. Himes said 140,000 cars a day travel over the bridge.
