THE HAUNTED HOUSE Assignment
Okay - so it's only a few weeks past Halloween and maybe I did watch too much gore on cable TV before going to sleep but I was terrified last night while pet sitting!!! I went to sleep around 11:30 after checking all the doors, leaving a light on in the kitchen, and putting the dog in her crate. I fell into the all white, snowy, delicious down covered bed and drifted off. Sometime around 1:15 a.m. I heard noises, talking in the house. This house is very spacious on a lot of property in Weston, CT - very dark out there! Cautiously I called out "hello?" thinking maybe one of the owners came home or a child came to visit from somewhere and didn't know I was there??? I ventured out into the blackness of the house, with thoughts of all the times I've yelled at characters in a movie "Don't go in there!" But I didn't have an ominous music soundtrack warning me and I had to be sure I wasn't just crazy!!
I found the TV on in the den. All the doors were still locked and nothing was disturbed. It could be a spirit in the house (the house is ancient), some kind of auto record feature that turned on the TV by accident or as simple as a power surge. Not sure what the source was. I got back into bed, staring out the window, listening for sounds... And suddenly a whoosh came on followed by a hum... after my heart stopped racing I realized it was the heat coming through the old pipes and I wasn't going to see a ghostly spirit in my room. Needless to say I didn't fall asleep again until about 4:00 a.m. and then got up with the alarm at 7:15 to take the dog for her morning walk. Daylight everything seems better but it was definitely a little freaky!!
A few days later the homeowner told me that her husband was watching some TV show on demand, put it on pause to answer a phone call and never went back to check or turn it off. Apparently it just kicked on by itself when it was tired of being on Pause!!
