Peter Rogers Florist In Stamford To Close After Decades In Business

After nearly 50 years in business, Peter Rogers Florist will close at the end of the month, according to the Stamford Advocate.

STAMFORD, CT — After almost 50 years in business in Stamford, Peter Rogers Florist will close its doors on Sept. 30, the Stamford Advocate reported.

The Advocate said that the florist shop first opened in 1973 at St. John’s Towers, and then moved to Route 1 and Courtland Avenue before finally settling at 12 Pine Hill Ave.

"Peter Rogers Florist has been hand-delivering premium floral arrangements and gift baskets to help strengthen relationships, give love and support, and celebrate life’s special moments since 1973," the shop's website says. "From birthdays to anniversaries to commemorating a loved one, and every little “just because” moment in between."

Reached by phone on Tuesday afternoon, owner Peter Rogers told Patch that he's retiring. The Advocate reported that Rogers' lease had become too much and there wasn't enough business, which played a role in closing down.

Rogers told Patch that over his 50 years in the flower business, he's seen a "tremendous amount of change."

"It's become a situation where flower shops are not a primary supplier of flowers anymore. They used to be a primary supplier for holidays and things like that, but now they're a secondary spot and they're only for instantaneous satisfaction; meaning you call up that day and get something delivered the same day, made from scratch," Rogers said.

Rogers called it a "challenging business," but said it's "always a pleasure" to brighten someone's day with a beautiful arrangement of flowers.

He noted the community support through the years.

"The community has supported me 100 percent," he said.
