Plan to Move Historic Stamford House Moves Forward
Relocation of the Hoyt Barnum House is needed to make way for construction of a new Stamford Police station.

A plan to buy the Hoyt Barnum House land and move the historic building to the High Ridge Road property of the Stamford Historical Society began moving forward last week when the Planning Board approved of a memorandum of agreement between the city and the historical society.
The memorandum details the sale of the land at 713 Bedford St. and the move of the building from the site in order to make way for a new $60 million Stamford Police headquarters, according to The Advocate. The current headquarters which has been deemed unsafe because of asbestos, is next door the Hoyt Barnum house, that was built in 1699.
The city wants to move what is considered the city’s oldest house to the historical society’s property so the land can be used to build the new police station.
