Elderly Man Seriously Hurt After Assault: Stamford Police
Police said they charged a 25-year-old New York man in connection with an assault that occurred in Stamford on Wednesday afternoon.

STAMFORD, CT — A 71-year-old Stamford man is "in grave condition" at Stamford Hospital following an assault that occurred Wednesday on Cold Spring Road near the area of Long Ridge Road, according to the Stamford Police Department.
Police said around 12:30 p.m., the department received calls about a fight in the area. Officers found two cars in the road, with a victim on the ground who was unconscious, police said; the Stamford Fire Department and Stamford Emergency Medical Services immediately rendered aid. The name of the victim is not being released.

After an investigation, police said they arrested Emmanuel Matias, 25, of Stamford, and charged him with second-degree assault of an elderly person. Police have not said what led up to the altercation.
Matias is currently being held on a $250,000 bond, police said.
A section of Cold Spring Road was closed for several hours on Wednesday as police conducted the investigation.
