Presidential Candidate Campaigns In Stamford

Campaign volunteers, supporters and staff spoke with likely voters in Stamford ahead of Connecticut's primary election this spring.

STAMFORD, CT — Campaign volunteers, staff and supporters of Mike Bloomberg spoke with likely voters in Stamford ahead of Connecticut's primary election on April 28. The event was intended to drum up support for the 2020 Democratic presidential candidate, according to a statement from the campaign.

The volunteer canvassing event, organized by Stamford resident and campaign supporter Melanie Blandon, was held at Latham Park.

"We are trying to raise awareness and tell those who might not know that Mike is a visionary and a great leader who will unite and rebuild our country," Blandon said in a statement. "Mike's campaign has made it so that volunteers like myself...could get involved and bring out all of the supporters for his run for the presidency. I'm looking forward to seeing his inauguration."

The campaign's Connecticut state director, Brett Broesder, also spoke with the group of volunteers about the upcoming presidential election.

"I think this is such an important election," Broesder said in a statement. "We need to beat Donald Trump and Mike's the guy to do it. He is the one candidate with the track record of taking on our country's toughest issues and being successful with it. Whether its climate change, public health or guns, he's the candidate who is most in line with democratic values and has been winning on these issues for a long time, and he will continue to do that as president."

During the event, volunteers canvassed downtown Stamford with lawn signs and clipboards, signing people up to get involved with the campaign.

Bloomberg, who previously served three terms as mayor of New York City from 2002 to 2013, is one of several Democratic candidates looking to run against Trump in the upcoming election.

According to his campaign website, he is also the founder of Bloomberg LP, which employs over 20,000 people who "share [Bloomberg's] passion for innovation and customer service."
